It is usual for dead marine organisms to be washed up ashore; however a two-headed dolphin calf would shock us with its recent presence as a bizarre specimen in particular.

As reported by Dogan news, the dead dolphin was found by a gym teacher on vacation to be seen washing up onto a beach in Dikili, Turkey, from the Aegean Sea not long ago. The marine biologists at AkdenizUniversity were engaged in careful examination of the carcass in order to look for more reasons behind it.

It was thought by the Daily Mail that two-headed dolphin calf was aged one-year-old with the length of one meter. From the early reports, we could learn that the eyes were not completely opened on one of the heads and neither was one of the blow holes.

Such rare condition with the dolphin is well-known as polycephaly. This two-headedness is clearly illustrated about the conjoined twins due to the incomplete splitting of a fertilized egg, which results in a shared body with separate heads. Polycephaly is typically seen among a quite number of animals such as dogs, fish, sheep and snakes as well as human beings.
